Centralising water, energy, solar, and billing from multiple platforms into one dashboard

The Challenge

The lodge was managing resource monitoring across multiple disconnected platforms — 8 water meters on one system, 6 energy meters on another, a third-party solar monitoring app, and manual Eskom bill tracking.

Month-end reporting required staff to log into different platforms, export data manually, and compile reports in spreadsheets. There was no single view of resource consumption, making it difficult to track costs or identify inefficiencies.

Monitoring reservoir levels and borehole pump flow rates to ensure water security for livestock

The Challenge

A dairy farm in the Eastern Cape needed to monitor water reservoir levels and borehole pump flow rates to ensure livestock always had access to water. Critical water levels were unknown, and staff had to physically check reservoirs and pumps multiple times per day.

With multiple water storage points across the property and unreliable manual monitoring, there was a constant risk of running out of water without warning. The remote location made frequent physical checks time-consuming and inefficient.

We retrofitted existing infrastructure with wireless monitoring:

  • Fitted LoRa dataloggers to existing flow meters on boreholes
  • Installed battery-powered ultrasonic sensors on reservoirs and tanks

Centre Pivot Irrigation Monitoring — Limpopo Grain Farm

Remote water logging, leak detection and usage accountability across multiple pivots — no WiFi required

The Challenge

A 600-hectare grain farm in Limpopo was running four centre pivots with no way to remotely track how much water each one was using. The farm had no WiFi or cellular coverage at field level, and the only way to check flow meters was a physical drive out to each pivot.

The farm manager suspected one pivot had a slow leak or a valve staying open overnight — but without data, there was no way to confirm it. Water was being drawn from a shared borehole, and unaccounted usage was quietly adding up.

Our Solution

We installed a fully off-grid wireless monitoring system across the farm:

  • Wireless LoRa pulse counters fitted to existing flow meters on each pivot
  • Battery-powered sensor nodes — no electrical installation at field level
  • Single LoRaWAN gateway at the farmstead connecting via 4G
  • Real-time dashboard showing live and historical flow per pivot
  • Borehole pump runtime and drawdown monitoring
  • Automated alerts for unexpected flow outside irrigation windows
  • Monthly water usage reports per pivot delivered automatically

Results

Within the first week of going live, the system detected an irrigation event running overnight on a pivot that should have been off — confirming the suspected valve fault. The leak was fixed, and an estimated 180m³ of water was saved in that single event alone.

The farm manager now has full water accountability across all four pivots from his phone — anywhere on the farm or off it — with no WiFi infrastructure needed at field level.
